Pixar Pals Spectacular nighttime show at Hong Kong Disneyland with drones over the castle

Hong Kong Disneyland (Lantau Island, Hong Kong) has debuted “Pixar Pals Spectacular,” an all-new nighttime show that turns the Castle of Magical Dreams and all of Main Street, U.S.A. into a moving canvas of Pixar stories. The show anchors the resort’s first-ever Pixar Summer Fest and runs through August 31, 2026.

What the Show Does

Rather than staging the action on the castle alone, the Disney Live Entertainment team extended it down the length of Main Street. Doors from “Monsters, Inc.” swing open across the buildings, waves from “Finding Nemo” ripple over the storefronts, and drones assemble the balloon house from “Up” in the night sky. The show opens with those same synchronized drones forming the Pixar Lamp and Ball overhead. The production layers projection mapping, drones, giant character inflatables, fountains, lasers, lighting, and original arrangements of Pixar music into a single sequence that runs from “Toy Story” through “WALL-E,” “Inside Out,” “Turning Red,” and “The Incredibles.” Characters from “Toy Story 5,” currently in theaters, appear as well.

Castle-projection nighttime shows run at Disney’s U.S. parks too, but Hong Kong Disneyland pairs them here with drone choreography and Main-Street-wide projections in a combination Disney says is exclusive to the resort.

The Team Behind It

The show was built by Disney Live Entertainment’s Creative Director Christie Evangelisto, Show Director Matt Coombes, and Producer Laetitia Lee, who built the whole production around a single theme: friendship.

“Friendship is a theme that runs throughout all our lives, from our very earliest memories through our formative years into adulthood, where our friends shape who we are,” said Matt Coombes. He said the team “had a lot of fun discussing the friendships from the Pixar canon that would resonate the most with our guests, as well as those moments which had the most emotional weight.”

Producer Laetitia Lee said the most rewarding part “has been bridging generations,” with characters from “Toy Story” and “Up” sharing the show with newer stories like “Turning Red” and “Inside Out.”
