Kings Dominion (Doswell, Va.) is rebuilding its Summer 2026 entertainment lineup around live performance, following a guest focus group that included Six Flags President and CEO John Reilly and park manager Jennifer Schofield.
Across a calendar that spans Memorial Day through Labor Day, Kings Dominion is layering on a new drone-and-fireworks show, a re-staged Cirque mainstage, a new outdoor percussion show, a new daytime water parade, an expanded Bandstand Stage day-and-night production, additional regional-band programming, and returning Star-Spangled fireworks. The roster spans nine program windows alongside returning legacy and roaming acts.
“This summer, entertainment isn’t an add on. It’s embedded in the heartbeat of the park,” Schofield said in the announcement. “This expanded lineup reflects our commitment to delivering the exceptional park experience our guests want and deserve.”
What’s New for Summer 2026
- Drone \& Fireworks Spectacular: Ignite the Night (NEW). A drone-and-fireworks show combining coordinated drone formations, timed pyrotechnics, and music-driven storytelling. Friday through Sunday nights, July 10 through August 9.
- Jungle X Percussion Show: Rhythm of the Wild (NEW). An outdoor percussion show in Jungle X-pedition, described in the announcement as a “take over the midway moment” connecting sound, movement, and environment. June 27 through August 9.
- Splash! Water Parade (NEW). A rolling water-play parade through Candy Apple Grove featuring whimsical floats and the Wacky Water Works Company, with interactive spray effects, dancing performers, and crowd participation. June 27 through August 9, on select dates.
- Bands in Residence (NEW). Local and regional bands performing multiple live sets per day in Candy Apple Grove across rock, blues, country, folk, bluegrass, indie, alternative, and pop. June 13 through August 16.
- Star-Spangled Nights presented by M\&Ms (new theme). The annual fireworks tradition returns on July 4 and 5, featuring patriotic music. Old Virginia carries patriotic décor from Memorial Day through Labor Day in recognition of America’s 250th celebration.
Returning Stage Productions
- Cirque Imagine (Returning). Mainstage production at the Kings Dominion Theater, June 20 through August 16. Originally announced as Pandemonium: A Cirque Extravaganza, the production has been re-staged for 2026, described in the announcement as “elevated into a fully realized theatrical experience” combining acrobatics, dance, and theatrical storytelling.
- Strike Up the Bandstand (Returning, daytime). A five-piece band on the Bandstand Stage on International Street, performing two daily sets across pop and top 40, rock and classic rock, country, party anthems, and nostalgic hits. June 27 through August 9.
- Rock the Night (Returning, nighttime). The Bandstand Stage transforms at night into a more than 20-performer production with live singers, dancers, drummers, and acrobatic performers. June 27 through August 9.
- Team Charlie Brown (Returning). A Peanuts musical adventure running through September 7.
Entertainment from Day to Night
The 2026 lineup runs continuously from park open through close. The Bandstand Stage hosts Strike Up the Bandstand during the day and transforms into Rock the Night after dark on the same venue. The new drone-and-fireworks show, Ignite the Night, runs Friday through Sunday nights from July 10 through August 9. Roaming acts run throughout operating hours: the Kings Dominion Clown Band, Family Magic with Peanuts, and the Singing Mushrooms animatronic ensemble.
“The result is an experience that moves seamlessly from day to night, appeals to all ages, and paired with world-class rides for the whole family, clearly sets a visit to Kings Dominion apart from any other family fun in the region,” said Kelly Daugherty, entertainment director for Six Flags.
Daily and Legacy Acts
Returning roaming and daily programming runs through summer:
- The Kings Dominion Clown Band (Returning). A roaming ensemble appearing on International Street, Candy Apple Grove, and the midways. May 23 through September 7. The band has performed at the park for more than four decades, according to the announcement.
- Family Magic with Peanuts (Daily). Snoopy and Peanuts characters meet and greet daily through the summer.
- Singing Mushrooms and the Frog Pianist (Daily). The animatronic ensemble in Candy Apple Grove featuring Mr. A. M. Phibian (Fib the Frog) has run since the park’s 1975 opening, with updated playlists and modernized technology for 2026.

What This Means for the Industry (Analysis)
The summer 2026 expansion arrives in the same season that other Six Flags properties have announced live-entertainment additions, including the return of Dead Man’s Party at Six Flags Great Adventure for Fright Fest 2026 and seasonal-overhaul programming at Holiday in the Park.
After John Reilly became Six Flags President and CEO in December 2025, he toured the parks collecting feedback, then committed to a more local approach. The slew of live entertainment announcements lately would suggest he’s delivering on that promise.
Reilly reinstated park-president positions at 10 Six Flags properties in April 2026 to further the localization goal, yet Kings Dominion was not on that list. Some argue that Kings Dominion’s exclusion from the April 2026 park-president cohort, despite recent capital investment in Rapterra, could indicate the property is being evaluated for further portfolio review. Others argue that the exclusion simply means the existing leadership structure under Schofield is performing at the level Reilly wants.
Or is it a simple competition play? Kings Dominion’s primary in-state competitor is Busch Gardens Williamsburg, a park known as Virginia’s live-entertainment leader.
Then there’s the family angle. For Six Flags to broaden its demographic and appeal to the whole family, it needs a full range of entertainment.
Regardless, Six Flags is bringing back a wide range of entertainment and we should cheer them on.
