Funding

SES is currently funded primarily through operational support from Gantom Lighting Controls as part of Gantom’s content marketing strategy. SES is part of a broader content ecosystem that includes industry research, podcasts, an annual print magazine, and live events.

Planned and upcoming revenue streams include:

  • Print advertising in the SES annual print magazine, scheduled to launch later this year
  • Sponsored content, which will be clearly labeled as such and visually distinct from editorial content when introduced
  • Event sponsorship for the SES Symposium and other in-person programming

SES does not currently run display advertising, affiliate links, or paid placements within editorial articles. If any of these revenue streams are introduced in the future, this page will be updated and the relevant disclosures will be added to the affected content.

The Gantom Relationship & Editorial Independence

Because the owner of SES is also the CEO of a company in the industry SES covers, we want to be specific about how this relationship works in practice.

What Gantom does:

  • Provides operational funding for SES
  • Has a commercial interest in the seasonal and themed entertainment industries that SES covers
  • Manufactures lighting products that some companies covered by SES use in their projects

What Gantom does not do:

  • Review SES articles before publication
  • Approve, veto, or request changes to coverage decisions
  • Direct which companies, designers, projects, or topics SES covers
  • Provide subjects of coverage with access to articles before they are published
  • Receive any editorial considerations beyond what is offered to other industry sources

Editorial independence in practice
:

SES regularly covers companies, designers, projects, and venues that have no relationship with Gantom Lighting Controls. Coverage of non-clients is a deliberate editorial requirement, not an exception. Our editorial standards specifically commit to balanced industry coverage that reflects the full landscape of the field, not a curated view of Gantom’s commercial interests.

When SES covers Gantom directly, a Gantom product, or a paying Gantom client whose work is the primary subject of an article, we add a clearly marked disclosure at the top of that article. This policy took effect April 27, 2026, and applies to articles published on or after that date. The trigger conditions are:

  • The article is about Gantom or a Gantom product (such as a product launch or company announcement)
  • The article is a profile or case study of a paying Gantom client whose work is the primary subject
  • The article covers a project where Gantom equipment is a central technical element of the story

The disclosure does not apply when Gantom or a Gantom client is mentioned in passing, when an article covers an industry trend that includes both Gantom clients and non-clients, or when reporting references multiple companies including Gantom-affiliated ones.
