Tokyo Disney Resort (Urayasu, Japan) brings back its Summer Cool-off event for a second year, running July 2 through September 14 at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. For 2026, a theme song from Mrs. GREEN APPLE will be added resort-wide, and Gadget’s Go Coaster gets a water overlay. Splash Mountain’s seasonal “Get Soaked MAX Plus” returns from last year, Baymax will soak the parade route, and limited-period merchandise and chilled summer menu items roll out at both parks.
What is Summer Cool-off?
Summer Cool-off is Tokyo Disney Resort’s answer to Japan’s hot, humid summer. From July 2 through September 14, both parks add lots of water to existing rides, install dedicated “Get Soaked” zones where guests can stand under cool mist or sudden water bursts, and route a Baymax-led parade that sprays the watching crowd at multiple stops. Limited-period merchandise and chilled summer menu items round out the seasonal offering.
What’s New at Tokyo Disneyland
- Baymax’s Mission: Cool Down (Returning). This is a 35-minute roving parade with two floats, performed three times a day along the Tokyo Disneyland parade route. As the floats roll along the route, they stop periodically; Baymax “detects” guests with low energy and the float fires a wide blast of water across the crowd to cool everyone down. The 2026 version pairs the spray sequence with the new Mrs. GREEN APPLE theme song.
- Reach for the Stars: Everlasting Dreams (Returning, finale). Reach for the Stars is the Cinderella Castle nighttime spectacular that debuted in 2024 for Tokyo Disneyland’s 40th anniversary. The show runs about 25 minutes each evening and combines drones, projections on the castle, fireworks, water screens, and Disney character moments, all tied to a medley of film soundtracks. The 2026 summer version adds a special post-show segment exclusive to the event period. The show retires permanently on September 14 after a two-year run (By Tokyo Disney standards, this is normal, as shows in Asia rotate more often than in the US).
- Gadget’s Go Coaster “Get Soaked” Version (NEW). Tokyo Disneyland’s Gadget’s Go Coaster is a small family coaster that mirrors the one at Disneyland (California) and Mickey’s Toontown in general, with the same compact track and the same theming inspired by the Rescue Rangers character Gadget. For 2026, Tokyo adds a first-ever water overlay: as the coaster rolls past hidden jets along the track, the jets fire bursts of water timed to the ride’s pacing, soaking riders and nearby onlookers.
- Splash Mountain “Get Soaked MAX Plus” (Returning). For the 2026 summer, Splash Mountain runs its second year of “Get Soaked MAX Plus.” The seasonal overlay turns up the splash so guests on the ride and onlookers on the nearby footpath both end up soaked. NOTE: Tokyo Disneyland is now the only Disney park still operating Splash Mountain in this original form: Walt Disney World rethemed to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (opened June 2024), and Disneyland California followed (opened November 2024).
- The Happy Ride with Baymax (Special Version). The Happy Ride with Baymax is a spinning whirly ride at Tokyo Disneyland where small ride vehicles, pulled by Baymax’s nursebot friends, swing guests in unpredictable circles set to upbeat music. The 2026 special version adds the Mrs. GREEN APPLE theme song to the existing six-song attraction playlist; after 7:00 p.m., the Mrs. GREEN APPLE song plays exclusively. Presented by Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.
- Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions (Returning). Tokyo Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise is the same boat-ride concept as the U.S. parks’ Jungle Cruise (skipper-led commentary, animatronic wildlife, jokes about a charging hippo), but the Tokyo version, “Wildlife Expeditions,” is reworked to emphasize the wildlife-discovery angle more than the U.S. parks’ joke-heavy approach. Skippers hand out a special sticker memento as guests disembark. Presented by ENEOS.
- Country Bear Theater “Vacation Jamboree” (Returning). Country Bear Theater is the Tokyo Disneyland version of the animatronic country-and-western bear show that began at Walt Disney World in 1971. Tokyo’s 18-bear cast performs songs and bits from a stage set up like a country music hall. The “Vacation Jamboree” summer version, running July 2 through October 31, swaps the regular set list for a summer-themed one. Presented by House Foods Corporation.
- “Get Soaked” Toontown. Toontown’s “Get Soaked” zones are dedicated water-spray spots scattered throughout the land where guests can step into mist and sudden water bursts. The Trolley Barn at Jolly Trolley features cool mist; the Toontown Fire Department and the Fireworks Factory both spray water. The zones run continuously throughout the event period so guests can cool off whenever they pass. Presented by Kodansha Ltd.
What’s New at Tokyo DisneySea
Two programming elements anchor Tokyo DisneySea’s 2026 lineup:
- Aquatopia “Get Soaked” Version (Returning, final summer). Aquatopia is an interactive water-vehicle boat ride that opened at Tokyo DisneySea in July 2001 in the Port Discovery-themed area. Guests ride small craft that spin and dart unpredictably across an outdoor lagoon, while hidden jets and rotating sprayers soak them. The “Get Soaked” version turns up the water for the summer. Aquatopia closes permanently on September 14, 2026, ending a 25-year run; the 2026 summer is the last opportunity for guests to ride it.
- “Get Soaked” Harbor Splash at Mediterranean Harbor (Returning). This is a daytime water-spray show at Piazza Topolino (the central plaza of Tokyo DisneySea’s Mediterranean Harbor port). High-pressure water cannons positioned around the harbor fire bursts of water at scheduled times throughout the day. The “Splash Time” segment fires the most aggressive sprays and pairs them with the Mrs. GREEN APPLE theme song.
Mrs. GREEN APPLE Joins the Summer Soundtrack
Tokyo Disney Resort partnered with Mrs. GREEN APPLE for the 2026 Summer Cool-off, one of Japan’s most popular contemporary acts. Their songs took the top five spots on Billboard Japan’s 2025 year-end Streaming Songs chart, and their 2024 anniversary album “10” sold over a million copies.
The band’s “Carrying Happiness (Tokyo Disney Resort Version)” plays multiple places:
- The Baymax’s Mission: Cool Down parade route at Tokyo Disneyland (the song accompanies the parade’s water-spraying performances along the route)
- The Happy Ride with Baymax attraction at Tokyo Disneyland (the song joins the existing six-song rotation for the ride; after 7:00 p.m., the Mrs. GREEN APPLE song plays exclusively)
- “Get Soaked” Harbor Splash at Tokyo DisneySea’s Mediterranean Harbor (the song accompanies the “Splash Time” segment when the harbor’s water-spray cannons fire)
Special collaboration merchandise launches July 1 at Tokyo Disneyland. The line includes a penlight that lights up in sync with The Happy Ride with Baymax light show. The penlight pattern is borrowed from Japanese concert culture, where audience penlights synchronizing with the artist’s stage lighting cues are a standard part of live music performances. The merchandise line also includes park items featuring Baymax and the Mrs. GREEN APPLE logo, and a collaboration drink.
Summer Menus and Drinks
Tokyo Disneyland adds a colorful selection of shaved-ice flavors and a Roast Beef Rice Bowl from July 1. Tokyo DisneySea offers two granita options: Cafe Portofino in the Mediterranean Harbor port serves a tiramisu-style granita with mascarpone cream, and Zambini Brothers’ Ristorante (also in Mediterranean Harbor) serves a peach-and-lemon granita. Sultan’s Oasis in DisneySea’s Arabian Coast port serves a Chilled Curry-Flavored Udon. Both parks add chilled noodles for the season.
What’s Happening at the Disney Hotels
Disney hotel programming runs July 1 through September 14 at the Tokyo Disney Resort hotels:
- Tokyo Disneyland Hotel — “Tokyo Disneyland Hotel Summer Adventure!” This is a hotel-and-pool game program that guests staying at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel can join during their visit. The Lost Kids characters from Disney’s “Peter Pan” lead a treasure-hunt-style program; guests solve puzzles inside the hotel to receive a sticker from a cast member, and a separate poolside program at the outdoor Misty Mountains Pool sends guests searching for treasures the Lost Kids have drawn. The poolside program requires a separate pool admission ticket.
- Disney Ambassador Hotel — Tropical Summer Festival. This is a new hotel event for 2026. The hotel’s restaurants serve summer-themed menus, the outdoor Palm Garden Pool gets a tropical-festival overlay, and the Chef Mickey buffet adds a Hawaiian-Style Lunch and Dinner Buffet for the duration of the event.

What This Means for the Industry (Analysis)
Tokyo Disneyland’s Summer Programming is a fantastic example of encouraging repeat visits from locals through two major initiatives: mitigating the heat and engaging local talent.
Summer heat is a problem for outdoor parks, and we hear about its impact constantly during earnings (there’s a bingo card in here somewhere). But this event literally drenches guests with water to help. Eight Tokyo Disneyland attractions and two at Tokyo DisneySea are designed to soak guests on purpose this season. American theme park summer programming centers on shaded shows, F&B festivals, and indoor air-conditioned attractions. U.S. Disney parks run “splash” attractions and water parks, but they do not stage parade-route drenchings or attraction-wide water overlays at scale. I doubt this would transfer to the U.S. but it’s a great way to combat the heat in a culture acclimated to it.
The Mrs. GREEN APPLE collab seems to mirror what Universal Studios Japan has been doing with Universal Cool Japan; Universal deliberately partners with local Japanese IP (and even did a similar song collab with ADO). Disney does do collabs, but less frequently. However, the band’s chart dominance in Japan (the entire top five of Billboard Japan’s year-end Streaming Songs 2025) makes this a great way to engage locals and add both energy and synergy to the event.
And, of course, we can’t forget the food. While it isn’t the centerpiece of this seasonal event, there’s plenty of FOMO around the menu items.
