The $1.2-billion project, slated to open in late 2020, will have 13 rides and attractions over several temperature zones.
Snow Abu Dhabi is the name of a production partnership among Reem Mall, Majid Al Futtaim Ventures, and the Thinkwell Group. Their new park, projected to open in 2020, focuses on all things wintry. Visitors will enter via Blizzard’s Bazaar just outside the attraction, which has a temperature of -2º (28º F) and a snow depth of 500 mm (20 in). The bazaar will feature souvenirs and cold-weather clothing.
Snowflake Garden will be a snow-play activity area with ice labyrinths, games, and snowperson building. Crystal Carousel will spotlight the animals in the park, and Flurries Mountain will lead to the Enchanted Tree.
Snow Abu Dhabi is hoping to score with its unique polar environments, stereotypical (but new to residents of the region) winter activities, cold-weather-narrative themes, and stunning visuals to create memorable family experiences with high re-visit potential.
Elsewhere, Al-Futtaim Malls is spearheading the expansion of the Festival City Mall in Cairo, which will have a promenade with 120 stores 60 retail outlets. Majid Al Futtaim currently has $4 billion committed to shopping centers in Saudi Arabia. Its subsidiary, Vox Cinemas, has a $500-million portfolio of 600 screens in the kingdom.
