Retailtainment Openings We’re Watching

Lest you doubt the sticking power of good IP, “Harry Potter New York is a 21K sqft themed retail experience with interactive elements, exclusive products and handmade props – spanning three floors with 15 themed areas.”

Remember the Dublin Street Experience? Other brands are taking note. “Next-Gen Luxury Guest Experience at the new IWC Flagship Boutique in Zurich, Design Build by The Producers Group.”

For attractions that can’t invest to build an entire flagship, try out designing essential items for your merchandise store. The Design Supermarket is selling a range of essential products, including bread, tea, coffee and toilet roll, with packaging designed by emerging artists.

Earth Day!

The Biden Administration unveiled a lot of Earth day, but Disney matched the call with their own slew of announcements both in-park and online. First, “2 new solar plants planned for Florida’s Walt Disney World” will “add two 75-megawatt solar plants as part of efforts to reach zero emissions by 2030.”  Second, “Disney launches plastic-free boxes for dolls ahead of Earth Day.”

Finally, to underscore the company’s investment in Disney+ Disney premiered “James Cameron’s ‘Secrets of the Whales’ on Earth Day.

The takeaway here? Take the opportunity next year to announce how your attraction is progressing to reduce emissions. Guests will begin expecting a little more from attractions as we reopen.
